![]() | Treason : Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism Ann Coulter Date: 24 June, 2003 — $18.33 — Book Rating: |
I'm tempted to say this book is all about hate, but that's too broad a condemnation. Coulter only hates those whose political views are to the left of hers, and while that includes the vast majority of Americans, it certainly doesn't include them all. Coulter hates leftists of every stripe, she hates liberals and progressives, she hates Democrats, she hates feminists, and she even hates moderate Republicans.
Here's her reasoning, as far as I can follow the twists and spins: Communists are evil. Communists are to the left of Ann Coulter. All the previously mentioned Americans are to the left of Ann Coulter. Therefore they are all evil Communists and are deserving of hate. She then uses this scaffolding to construct some wobbly arguments for her belief. According to her, the left worships at the alter of some obscure New York Times editorialists, and Democratic (Communist) policy is made by Sean Penn, Ed Asner, and the cast of Mary Tyler Moore. Coulter also spends much of the book "exonerating" Joe McCarthy and McCarthyism. Whatever.
In a brilliant tactical move, Coulter warns that anyone who describes her book as "shrill" is a Communist. She then goes on to use phrases like, "For liberals, "McCarthyism" was the most significant period in human history, darker than the days of the plague," and "History is an endless process of liberal brainwashing." While "shrill" is definitely a word that comes to mind, I'm willing to bet there are equally descriptive adjectives.
From the "Cold War" to the war on terrorism, Coulter spews hate upon her fellow Americans (I assume she's an American), interspersed with some half-truths, lies of omission, outright lies, and a whole bunch of twisted logic. I'd give her one star for effort, but even I could make a better, more coherent case for hating everyone to the left of Ann Coulter: Zero stars. Enjoy!
