Except that it isn't the Republicans who made the racist comments, it was Sotomayor. Why should she get a pass? If a Repub had said what she said, he or she would have been vilified.

That is neither what she stated, nor how it was meant. Although I see the White House and at least one senator have no problems rephrasing what she said (many times), she herself is surprisingly quiet about it.
